101 Bottles of Beer in the Bag Around here the snow has just melted. (About time.) And the sides of the roads are littered with - you guessed it - bottles. Most of them beer bottles. That tells me something. People who drink beer are litterbugs. Which tells me something else. People who drink beer don't care about the environment or even the beauty of the place around them. Cause I'll tell you something else: it's beautiful here where I live.
I went out with a couple teens to pick up the bottles as a warm-up for Green Up Day (you are participating in Green Up Day, aren't you? You can read about Vermont's Green Up Day here: http://www.greenupvermont.org/ but your own state probably has a Web site too.) We walked for 3 and a half miles, but filled a grocery bag so full it couldn't be carried before we even hit three miles. (In case you're wondering we stashed it behind a tree and came back for it in the car.) One of the teens remarked, "There are more beer bottles than soda bottles; there's something wrong with people today."
I agree.
As you go out in the world today I hope two things:
1) I hope you recycle your soda bottles because this world is a beautiful place. So far. But it can use all the help it can get.
2) I hope that you don't choose to drink beer (or any alcohol.) Because this world is a beautiful place and I sure hope you don't miss out on all that beauty for a minute.
And don't forget Green Up Day!! |
